Porsche Macan SUV. 1st generation, 2021 restyling
The Porsche Macan is a mid-size SUV that has been produced since 2014. The first generation model has already sold more than 600 thousand vehicles, with China becoming the largest market. The vehicle was first restyled in 2018, and it would seem that the time has come for the second generation, but this is not the case. This is because the next Macan will be electric and will be launched in 2023. In the meantime, the 2021 restyled model was released. The restyled SUV looks different and has become much more powerful. The restyled SUV comes in S, GTS and GTS versions with the GTS Sport package. We will explore them in our review. The new Porsche Macan is expected to be on sale in the fourth quarter of 2021. We hope it will soon appear on the Israeli market.
The Macan is not the kind of model that comes to mind when you mention Porsche. Surely, you will immediately think of the Porsche 911, 718 Cayman and Boxster, the Cayenne or Porsche Panamera. The Macan will definitely not be the first. But the Macan is important because 80% of buyers consider this model the first car by Porsche. The 2018 Porsche Macan is still supplied to Israel. The entry-level version is equipped with a 2-liter turbocharged engine with 252 hp, while acceleration to the first 100 km/h occurs in 6.7 seconds and the maximum speed is 227 km/h. There is also the Macan S with a 3-liter TFSI twin-turbocharged engine producing 354 hp. Acceleration to 100 km/h occurs in 5.1 seconds, and the maximum speed is 254 km/h. The top-end Porsche Macan GTS has a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with 380 hp. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in 4.9 seconds, and the maximum speed is 261 km/h.
Exterior
In 2021, the new Porsche Macan started featuring different bumpers, with the front one being almost the same as that of the previous top-end Turbo version, while the GTS modification has its center section entirely painted in black. The rear bumper has a large black pseudo-diffuser. The wheel rims now range from 19 inches (standard) to 21 inches. The redesigned front end has a body-colored insert. The color palette offers new colors (14 shades, not counting a separate Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur palette): Papaya Metallic and Gentian Blue Metallic plus Python Green for the Macan GTS with GTS Sport package. Adaptive LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) and Sport Design exterior mirrors are standard equipment.
Interior
The 2021/2022 Porsche Macan features a new center console with touch buttons instead of analog ones, a 10.9-inch touchscreen display of the Porsche Communication Management multimedia system and a shortened transmission lever. The new steering wheel is almost like a modern Porsche 911. An analog clock at the top of the dashboard has become standard. The range of finishes and contrasting color accents has been expanded.
Engines and chassis
All the most important changes have been introduced under the hood. The new Porsche Macan has become clearly more powerful. Modifications:
- The standard version comes with a 2-liter petrol turbocharged engine with 265 hp. Acceleration to 100 km/h occurs in 6.2 seconds. The maximum speed is 232 km/h.
- The Macan S is equipped with a 2.9-liter V6 turbocharged engine with 380 hp. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in 4.6 seconds. The maximum speed is 259 km/h.
- The top-end Macan GTS has a 2.9-liter turbocharged V6 engine with 440 hp. This modification overcomes the 100 km/h mark in 4.3 seconds. The maximum speed is 272 km/h. Additionally, the GTS comes with the GTS Sport Package, which includes 21-inch wheels, a Sport Chrono Package, an electronically controlled PTV Plus rear differential, carbon fiber trim and sports seats.
All engines work in conjunction with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and four-wheel drive system. In addition, the SUV is equipped with modernized adaptive shock absorbers (an option for the conventional Macan models and standard for the S and GTS). The chassis has been re-tuned for ‘better response to road conditions and better steering wheel feedback.’ The GTS modification comes standard with a sports air suspension with a 10 mm lower body (previously it was an option), which became 10% stiffer at the front axle and 15% at the rear.
