Production version of the electric RAM 1500 REV
The RAM 1500 REV is RAM’s first electric pickup, as the 1500 Revolution concept car introduced in January 2023. In February 2023, the manufacturer introduced the production version of the electric RAM 1500 that is very, even radically different from the revolutionary concept car. The vehicle has received rather traditional design similar to the current RAM pickups with internal combustion engines. RAM has already begun accepting orders for a model that will not go on sale until the fourth quarter of 2024. Probably, future buyers want to know what exactly they are buying. On the other hand, a $100 advance is a small price for the unknown, as in the end, you can return it and not worry too much about the “pig in a poke”. But RAM has decided otherwise.
The production version of the RAM 1500 REV looks totally different from the 1500 Revolution concept car. The production pickup has abandoned the experimental style of the show car. RAM CEO Mike Koval has confirmed that the electric pickup will look closer to the combustion-engined model, but there will be a TRX version (but for some reason we are not happy about this). Why did the manufacturer follow the path of conservatism? Perhaps this is because the clients of this segment are themselves relatively conservative. Perhaps it will take a long time to bring all the latest technologies demonstrated to us to life, but the pickup is already expected in 2024. In our humble opinion, this is a missed opportunity to present an innovative production model, completely different from the usual classic pickups. Ford followed the same path, retaining the familiar appearance for its electric pickup, the Ford F-150 Lightning. At the same time, Chevrolet took a chance and made the electric Chevrolet Silverado EV more dynamic and energetic that is fundamentally different from the company's usual "trucks" and has nothing to do with the regular Silverado, which is sold in Israel today. In fact, it is a converted and simplified pickup, the GMC Hummer EV.
The interior of the 2024 RAM 1500 REV will feature a fully digital dashboard, a large, vertically located multimedia screen, as well as an additional screen for the front passenger. The physical sound and climate control buttons will remain. It will be possible to monitor the charging status and completion time at the charging port or on the touch screen and digital gauge. RAM promises ‘a large number of advanced technologies, luxurious finishes and superior comfort’. But this, again, cannot be compared with a super-technological revolutionary concept car…
The new RAM 1500 REV is based on a completely new STLA platform, different from other RAM models, which will be used by all large electric commercial vehicles from Stellantis in the future. While RAM does not reveal all the technical details about the model, it is only known that the electric pickup will be equipped with an 800-volt electrical system capable of providing a long driving range and allowing charging at a maximum power of up to 350 kW. According to the developers, in just some 10 minutes, you can replenish the driving range up to 160 km. We hope that the production model will keep this feature…
