The MG EHS is a five-seater SUV produced by the British brand MG, which has been owned by SAIC (China) since 2007 (as of 2021). It is available in both petrol and plug-in hybrid versions. In 2021, Israeli buyers can purchase the 2019/2020 MG EHS PHEV plug-in hybrid SUV.

The first generation

It has been produced from 2019 to the present (as of 2021). The first MG EHS is the production version of the X Motion concept, which debuted at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show. The MG EHS engines include a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol inline 4-cylinder engine with 169 hp (a total of 171 hp or 126 kW) and a 2-liter turbocharged petrol in-line 4-cylinder engine with 231 hp. The vehicle is equipped with a front-wheel drive, 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Israeli buyers have a chance to purchase an electric version of the SUV, MG ЕHS PHEV, equipped with a plug-in hybrid system. It has been produced since October 2020.

Features of the hybrid version

The new 2020 MG EHS PHEV is the brand’s third model with an electric powertrain. Prior to the EHS presentation, the company released the MG 6 compact sedan and the MG EZS subcompact crossover SUV. The hybrid system of the SUV is based on a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine. It belongs to the second generation, which was developed by SAIC. The combination of two powerful petrol (162 hp) and electric (122 hp) engines provides power, environmental friendliness and quiet driving, while at the same time very low fuel consumption of less than 2 l/100 km. Even if you have driven on electricity alone, the petrol engine will continue to charge the battery and keep the vehicle moving. With the 2020/2021 MG EHS PHEV, you don’t have to worry about driving range. By the way, this SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds.

The MG EHS hybrid SUV is a large enough 5-seater vehicle, offering spaciousness and comfort along with a high-quality trim. The interior looks expensive and is finished with soft materials, featuring faux leather seats with good lateral support. There is a 10.1-inch touchscreen and a leather multifunction tilt/reach adjustable steering wheel. The quality of build and finish are high.

The rear-row passengers can feel comfortable, enjoying ample legroom, 60:40 seat split, folding center armrest, vents and two USB ports. The trunk is large: 463 liters or 1,287 liters with the rear seats folded.

The new MG EHS PHEV is very fuel-efficient, consuming less than 2 liters per 100 km, while accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds.

In addition, the 2020/2021 MG EHS PHEV can be equipped with an emergency braking system that monitors the vehicle in front and a lane keeping assist system. The SUVs are equipped with a DCT gearbox. The vehicle comes with dual airbags, hill descent system, anti-lock braking system and electronic brake force distribution. The SUV has received the five-star Euro NCAP crash safety rating.

Steering, braking and mobility are just what you expect from the family SUV. Driving performance has been improved, although some shaking on bumps indicates that there is still work to be done to catch up with the class leaders.

According to the manufacturer, the new 2021 MG EHS PHEV will be sold with a warranty of 8 years or 150,000 km for the battery and 5 years or 150,000 km for the rest of the vehicle’s systems.
