The Jeep Compass is a compact 5-door SUV manufactured since 2006 by the Jeep off-road division of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, an Italian-American carmaker. It can be both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

In 2016, the manufacturer started releasing the second generation Jeep Compass SUV. In April 2021, the vehicle underwent restyling, after which it has acquired a ‘more expressive and modern’ exterior, a new interior and new options. This is the first European Jeep model launched by the new automotive group, Stellantis, which has merged the brand’s former manufacturer with the PSA Group (France).

Exterior

The new Jeep Compass now looks somewhat different, featuring a new front bumper. Its narrower head optics with running lights has been moved to the top of the headlamp unit, whereas the radiator grille is divided into two unequal horizontal sections with new slots. The fog lights along with cruise control sensors have also moved higher, reminding the buyer about the off-road roots of the vehicle. The fog lights themselves have become smaller, and they are visually united by a wide insert. A tribute to practicality is the new electrically operated tailgate with a swing sensor, which does not look different from the previous one. Due to the front bumper, the vehicle has become 3 cm longer (4,424 mm long).

Interior

The 2021 Jeep Compass can boast of a completely new interior. The front panel features disguised side ventilation deflectors, virtual devices on the 10.25-inch screen and a ‘tablet’ of the UConnect 5 media system. The diagonal of the latter depends on the trim level and can be 8.4 or 10.1 inches. The operating system (Android) supports wireless updating and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto apps. The center tunnel with a 5-liter compartment under the armrest has also been redesigned.

Against this background, the traditional fixed gear selector and the analogue climate control panel look nostalgic. It is pleasant to see that the Jeep has become more customizable, now you can not only choose the finishing materials, but also inserts of various textures and colors, such as aluminum and carbon fiber or nappa leather elements.

Powertrains

The 2021/2022 Jeep Compass comes with the same engines. In Israel, it is a 1.3-liter turbocharged petrol engine (150 hp and 270 Nm), combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The vehicle is dynamic and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds, developing the top speed of 199 km/h. All of its suspensions are independent. Plus, the vehicle features disc brakes, and the front ones are ventilated.

Equipment

The restyled SUV has expanded the list of driver assistance systems. The new Compass is the first model in the range to feature the Level 2 autonomy system as standard. The list of equipment also includes Traffic Sign Recognition System; Intelligent Speed Control System, which makes sure that the vehicle is moving at the permitted speed; Driver Fatigue Monitoring System, which warns of a lower attentiveness level while driving; Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection to prevent (or mitigate the consequences) possible collisions by applying braking until the vehicle fully stops. The main innovation is the Highway Assist System, complemented by Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist, which automatically adjusts the speed and trajectory of travel.
