Tesla Model S Liftback. 1st generation, 2021 restyling

Tesla Model S 2021. Bodywork, Exterior. Liftback, 1 generation, restyling 2

The Tesla Model S is a five-door Class F electric car manufactured by Tesla (USA). It has been produced since 2012 as a liftback. In 2021, the first generation of the electric vehicle underwent significant restyling. In the very near future, the Model S is expected to enter the Israeli market (as of 2021).

The Model S is one of the best-selling luxury electric sedans in the world. Based on the results of the NHTSA crash tests, the Model S has managed to earn five-star rating in all categories. Consumer Reports called the electric vehicle ‘the best CR vehicle ever tested’.

Distinctive features of the 2021 model

The 2021 5-door 5-seater liftback is 4,970 mm long, 1,964 mm wide and 1,435 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,960 mm. The trunk volume is 793 liters. The new Tesla Model S has received a redesigned exterior, a completely new interior and improved equipment.

The exterior of the restyled sedan has not changed as significantly as the internal content. The car features new bumpers, a redesigned front bumper and new wheels. The door handles, window sill moldings and the fifth door now have black trim instead of the chrome one.

The regular steering wheel has been replaced by a real pilot wheel, and the touch buttons and drums on the steering wheel spokes have replaced the paddle levers. Moreover, instead of a ‘vertical’ tablet in the center of the new front panel, there is a 17-inch ‘horizontal’ screen with increased brightness and contrast with a resolution of 2,200 × 1,300. The dashboard in front of the driver is also a 12.3-inch screen. The ventilation ducts are unobtrusive, and the center console features two wireless charging pads and USB-C connectors.

The second row seats are also new, and the rear passengers can now enjoy their own 8-inch display located between the backs of the front seats. The list of equipment includes 3-zone climate control and front seat ventilation.

Modifications

In 2021, new electric motors appeared again. After a long pause, Tesla began to openly publish the power of the powertrains, but now hides the capacity of the traction battery.

  • The Dual motor Long Range Plus version is four-wheel drive and has two engines with a total capacity of 670 hp or 493 kW. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h occurs in 3.4 seconds, with the maximum speed being 250 km / h. The driving range amounts to 663 km within the US EPA cycle. Such a Tesla Model S costs approximately 80 thousand dollars (as of 2021).
  • The Tri motor Plaid version is four-wheel drive and has three (!!!) electric motors. The rear wheels are driven by individual motors, and this solution allows for thrust vector control. The peak power reaches 1,034 hp or 751 kW! Such a liftback can reach the first 100 km in 2.1 seconds! The maximum speed is 322 km / h! However, you can reach this speed only by using special tires. The battery is the same here, so the driving range is ‘only’ 628 km. The approximate cost is 120 thousand dollars (as of 2021).

The near future

Elon Musk announces that Tesla will start producing a new generation of traction batteries by the end of 2021. With similar dimensions, the battery capacity will be larger, and the driving range will increase by about 16%. Such a battery will appear on the Tesla Model S Plaid+ electric vehicle. It will have the same electric motors as the Plaid version, but the driving range will exceed 840 km! And the acceleration to 100 km/h will take even less than 2.1 seconds. The estimated cost of such a Tesla is 140 thousand dollars. The model can already be ordered
