The Maserati Grecale is a mid-size luxury SUV that has been produced by the Italian brand Maserati since the spring of 2022. The model is the ‘little brother’ to the larger SUV, the Maserati Levante. It is based on the Giorgio platform, which makes Maserati related to the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio. By naming the vehicle in honor of the hurricane wind blowing over the Mediterranean Sea, the creators hint at its excellent dynamics. We can only rejoice, as finally this wind is blowing in the right direction: the luxurious Grecale can already be purchased in Israel. The first generation vehicle comes in three versions.

Exterior

The new Maserati Grecale is made in the corporate style: a wide-open ‘greedy mouth’ of the air intake, a sloping ‘nose’, long headlights and air ducts in the front fenders. The vehicle is lean. The windshield and rear windows are strongly tilted. The SUV comes with 19-inch to 21-inch wheels. In addition, there are various exterior and interior customization options.

Interior and equipment

The SUV features a number of different screens: a driver’s head-up display, a 12.3-inch dashboard, two touch-screen displays on the central panel: a 12.3-inch screen of the Maserati Intelligent Assistant media system on the top and a smaller screen that hides climate control and others settings at the bottom. Of special note is the watch with a digital interface: it can show a compass, a chronometer and an acceleration indicator. Rear passengers have their own climate zone with a 6.5-inch display. The vehicle is finished with genuine leather, wood veneer and carbon fiber. The trunk volume is 535 liters for “mild” hybrids (the volume takes away the battery) and 570 liters for the top-end Trofeo. Moreover, the SUV is roomy, offering a decent wheelbase of 2,901 mm.

The new Grecale has received a VDCM (Vehicle Dynamic Control Module) settings change system. That means Comfort, GT, Sport and Off-Road driving modes. The Off-Road mode works on vehicles with air suspension and gives an increase in ground clearance by 30 mm. In general, the clearance is adjustable within 65 mm. The Trofeo version also has a Corsa racing mode. The list of options includes a panoramic sunroof, an excellent sound system, an automatic parking system and a level 2 autopilot.

Powertrains

The Israeli market offers three modifications of the 2023 Maserati Grecale: GT, Modena and Trofeo. A Folgore (‘lightning’) all-electric version is also expected. It will be released in 2023, and will receive a motor with a capacity of 500 hp and 800 Nm, as well as a battery with a capacity of 105 kWh. The maximum speed of the Folgore will exceed 200 km/h.

  • The entry-level GT is a mild hybrid based on a 2.0-liter supercharged engine (turbocharger and electric supercharger) and a 48-volt starter-alternator. It produces 300 hp and 450 Nm. The engine is faired with a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive, the main one being rear-wheel drive, complemented by a front-wheel coupling. The Maserati Grecale GT accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, while the maximum speed is 240 km/h.
  • The Modena version is a little more dynamic, offering 330 hp. The rear axle is equipped with a self-locking differential. The Maserati Grecale Modena accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds.
  • The Trofeo is a sports version with a sports body kit and a mighty 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo engine (the same is placed on the MC20 supercar, which is available in Israel). The Grecale’s engine power was slightly reduced to 530 hp and 620 Nm. The top-end car is distinguished by air suspension and a “smart” rear differential. The Maserati Grecale Trofeo accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. The maximum speed is 285 km/h.
