Meet the new Audi Q5 e-tron
The Audi Q5 e-tron is a new electric vehicle built on the MEB modular platform and is very similar to the Q4 e-tron, which is its sibling. However, the newcomer’s wheelbase is 201 mm longer and is 2,965 mm (versus 2,764 mm). Plus, the vehicle is 43 mm higher than the standard Q4 e-tron. At the same time, due to a greater rear overhang, the body length has grown by 288 mm up to 4,876 mm, while the trunk volume is 1,825 liters versus 1,490 liters for the regular Q4. The start of sales of the electric SUV is scheduled for the end of 2021. For now it will be offered only in China, but things may change in the future.
The Audi Q5 e-tron is a luxurious analogue of the Volkswagen ID.6 X, which was presented six months ago at the Shanghai Auto Show. Both models were developed and built by the SAIC Volkswagen joint venture specifically for the local market.
The vehicle offers a new roof shape and a different slope of the rear pillars, making it possible to place the third row of seats in the passenger compartment, which is its main difference. There will be seven or six-seater modifications. Moreover, the new Q5 e-tron can boast of slightly modified front optics with larger lower sections, a different bumper design, and upgraded taillights.
The new Audi Q5 e-tron will be sold in three versions. The entry-level Q5 35 e-tron is rear-wheel drive with one 180 hp electric motor and a 55 kilowatt-hour battery. The Q5 40 e-tron modification is equipped with a 204 hp electric motor and an 83.4 kilowatt-hour battery, which allows it to travel 560 km without recharging. The most powerful all-wheel drive Q5 50 e-tron quattro with two motors (109 hp at the front and 204 hp at the rear) has a driving range of up to 520 km.
Israeli buyers can choose between the Audi e-tron 55 e quattro and its coupe-like sibling Sportback. Both models are equipped with a 360-horsepower motor and a 95 kWh battery. The “simple” e-tron offers a driving range of 379 km, while the Sportback can provide 409 km.
