Crossover Mercedes GLE. 2nd generation 2018
The Mercedes GLE is a mid-size luxury E-class crossover from the German brand Mercedes-Benz, which has been produced since 2015. It can be both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. In 2020, the second generation of the 2018 model year SUV was available on the Israeli market.
The 2018/2019 5-door sedan has 5 seats. Dimensions: length is 4924 mm long, width is 2157 mm, height is 1772 mm, and wheelbase is 2995 mm. Trunk volume is 630 liters minimum, 2055 liters maximum.
Distinctive features
Despite the fact that at first glance the Mercedes GLE 2019/2020 looks even more compact than its predecessor, only its height has decreased – by 24 mm. Otherwise, the new GLE only added 105 mm in length and 12 mm in width. The wind drag coefficient became a record in the class at all – 0.29.
The design of the new GLE, with its distinctive C-pillar profile and the shape of the rear hemisphere, is unmistakably M-class. There is more space inside. And thanks to the increased interior volume, for the first time an optional third row of seats is now available on GLE. The second row is now truly comfortable: the distance between the rows of seats has been increased, the headroom has increased over the heads of the rear riders, an electric rear seat has appeared which allows you to move the side seats by 100 mm, change the backrest tilt and adjust the height of the head restraints.
In the interior of the crossover, a long, oversized media system monitor is installed – 12.3 inches, including a dashboard and a touchscreen display of the MBUX system, which now understands the driver perfectly. It is enough to say ‘Hey Mercedes’ and the system goes into command standby mode. Among the options is the Energizing Coach function, which can calm or invigorate the driver, depending on his condition, using the interior lighting, audio system, and massage.
Modifications
Only all-wheel drive versions of the GLE are supplied to Israel, equipped with gasoline or two diesel engines to choose from. All are turbocharged. All are fitted with 9-speed sports transmission. The 450 4Matic is equipped with a 3-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 367 hp. It accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. The top speed is 250 km/h. Diesel engines are installed on 300 d 4Matic and 350 d 4Matic models – 2 and 3-liter with a capacity of 245 and 272 hp. The top speed is approximately the same – 225-230 km/h. It accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 7, 2-6.6 seconds, respectively.
Trim versions
The 2020 Mercedes GLE is available in three trim versions: AMG, Exclusive, and Premium. There is a sunroof and panoramic roof, interior decorative lighting, tinted glass, door closers, faux leather interior seats, air suspension (except for Exclusive), LED headlights, light and rain sensors, adaptive lighting, and R19 or R20 wheels.
Basic options for both models are at least 7 airbags, central locking, child seat attachment systems for front and rear, backup camera, adaptive cruise control, front and back parking sensors with automatic parking, traffic condition selection, road traffic control, electronic brake assist systems, and collision avoidance system and electronic stability control.
