Peugeot 108. Stylish car perfect for city driving

Peugeot 108 2014. Bodywork, Exterior. Mini 5-doors, 1 generation

The Peugeot 108 is very similar to the Toyota Aygo and Citroen C1. They share a common chassis, engines, transmission and electric components. The compact French hatchback is available in 3 or 5 door configurations. There is also a top-end convertible, which has a fully retractable fabric roof. The Peugeot 108 has been in production since 2014. The next generation (together with the Citroën C1) was planned to be released in March 2021 based on the new global architectural platform, however, unfortunately, this plan has been canceled for now.

Exterior

With a length of 3.47 m and a width of 1.62 m, the Peugeot 108 became a real champion of compactness at the moment of its release. By the way, the car is not only small, but also very light, weighing only 840 kg. It was designed as an ideal city car and turned out to be close to ideal. The compact baby looks like a small revolutionary armored car, but with elements inherent in any Peugeot, making it graceful and playful. It has tiny wheels, small windows, a tiny radiator grille, and a short hood. But thanks to the very harmonious layout, the 108th looks stylish and cute.

Interior

The new Peugeot 108 is richly equipped, which is very important for a city car, as it is doomed to squeeze between high-rise buildings, stand in traffic jams for hours between short races along the avenues and park in limited spaces. The car comes standard with a keyless entry system, rearview camera, automatic air conditioning, keyless engine start button, as well as control functions that are concentrated on a 5 or 7-inch touch screen compatible with a smartphone.

The compact car is quite spacious and has special spaces dedicated for storing items. The glove box has a lid and holds a liter bottle, while the door pockets hold a 50 ml bottle. The hacthback also has a relatively large trunk of 196 liters, though without a spare wheel (which is there). It is easy to load items thanks to the low threshold of just 77 cm and a wide gap of 1 meter between the wheel arches. The initial volume, by the way, can be increased to a gigantic 0.7 cubic meters by folding the rear seat backs.

Engines

The 2021/2022 Peugeot 108 is equipped with a choice of 3-cylinder engines:

  • 1.0-liter e-VTi 68 engine and 5-speed manual transmission, CO2 emissions - 88 g/km;
  • 1.0-liter VTi 68 engine and 5-speed manual transmission, CO2 emissions - 95 g/km;
  • 1.0-liter VTi 68 engine and 5-speed electronic gearbox, CO2 emissions - 97 g/km;
  • 1.2-liter Puretech VTi 82 engine and 5-speed manual transmission, CO2 emissions - 99g/km.

The engines are not very powerful, they are not very dynamic, as they are designed exclusively for busy urban traffic conditions, when you can’t really accelerate, and you have to switch gears and stand often and for a long time.

Safety

The Peugeot 108 is definitely not the best choice for survival races. But it is exemplary safe within the city limits. This well-built car has an ideal weight distribution, reduced overhangs and a turning radius of only 4.8 m, which makes it easy to fit into any turns and easily overcome urban obstacles. The architecture of the car allows you to move the driver’s seat far forward, providing excellent forward visibility.

The driver and passengers are protected by a set of six airbags that come as standard: two front airbags (passenger airbag can be disabled), two front side airbags, and two curtain airbags covering the front and rear seats. Moreover, there is quite an impressive set of progressive modern security options.

Which car will you choose for an urgent trip to the city center during rush hour?
