The word ‘Stradale’ in the roadster’s name indicates that the Ferrari SF90 is a road car (the Italian word “strada” means “road”, “street” or “highway”). The two-seater berlinetta is considered one of the pinnacles of Ferrari’s engineering and technological sophistication. It is also available as a coupe. But our review focuses on the first generation of the 2019 Ferrari SF90 Stradale Roadster.

Exterior and interior

The new Ferrari SF90 Stradale was released in 2019. The roadster looks like a classic Ferrari car: aerodynamic, low, but slightly less aggressive than other creations of masters, which is due to the fact that the manufacturer has applied some aerodynamic know-hows to their Stradale, which made its front face look less aggressive, but at the same time the car is now capable of generating up to 390 kg of downforce. But if you lower a rear spoiler, the hybrid immediately becomes more aggressive and slightly resembles the latest Chevrolet Camaro.

The Italians have put a lot of effort into the interior. According to those lucky people who have already driven the roadster, the designers have even taken it too far or, perhaps, failed to adapt some elements of the coupe’s interior to the open-top format of the roadster. As a result, the upper part of the dashboard creates glare on the inside of the windshield. But clearly this is mere nitpicking.

All the SF90 models are equipped with a front-panel LCD monitor and a six-speaker sound system. The car comes with such technical features as a Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, an integrated navigation system with a voice activation function, Apple CarPlay, but without Android Auto. The SF90 has little cargo space, three cubic feet, which is roughly 0.03 cubic meters.

Engine, transmission and performance

The 2019/2020 Ferrari SF90 Stradale is powered by a powertrain comprising a massive 8-cylinder engine and three electric motors. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine produces an impressive 769 hp, and three electric motors provide an additional 217 hp. The total output thus reaches 986 hp and 800 Nm of torque.

The torque is transferred to all four wheels, which makes the car the first mid-engine all-wheel drive Ferrari. The engine is accompanied by an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Stradale accelerates to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds. Various driving modes allow you to adapt the car handling to your individual driving style. The supercar can only run on electricity, without internal combustion engines, using a pair of front electric motors. The rechargeable battery with a capacity of 8 kW/h can provide a driving range of up to 25 km without recharging and a speed of up to 135 km/h.

Safety and driver assistance features

The Ferrari SF90 models are rare enough, which is why they do not have a crash test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). But traditionally they are equipped with a wide range of driver assistance functions, including a blind spot warning system, a standard rear-view camera, a standard rear parking sensor, and so on.
