Seres 5. Sports image and different versions
The Seres 5 is a mid-size SUV that debuted at the end of July 2020. It was jointly developed by Seres and Huawei, one of the world leaders in telecommunications. In China, the model is known as Seres SF5. The vehicle has a sporty image and comes in electric and plug-in hybrid versions. The SUV is distinguished by an eye-catching design, a roomy interior, a high-tech powertrain, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The electric version is capable of driving up to 500 km on a single charge, while the series hybrid combines urban mode with a driving range of 150 km and a longer range mode with a driving range of up to 1,000 km. The car is already being imported into Europe. The cost in China is 63,900 euros for the entry-level version and 67,900 and 74,900 euros for the all-wheel drive version.
Huawei, the world's leading supplier of smart devices and information and communication technology infrastructure, has partnered with Seres to create a solution to increase the driving range of electric vehicles. The HUAWEI DriveONE 3-in-1 system not only increases autonomy, but also allows you to increase the performance of electric motors to the level of world-class models.
It is still unknown whether the new Seres 5 will appear in Israel. Another Seres model is offered on our market, a compact SUV, the Seres 3 EV with an electric motor. At the end of 2022, this Chinese brand entered the top 10 leaders of the electric vehicle market in Israel.
Exterior
The new Seres 5 features an expressive eye-catching design and memorable unusual details, such as spectacular, elongated headlights. The side glazing resembles a spindle, and the rear lights are integrated into a narrow strip that stretches the entire width of the body. The roofline drops to the fifth door, and the drag coefficient is 0.278. The SUV is available in eight exterior colors and five interior colors, which can be combined as desired. The vehicle can be considered mid-size, as it is 4,700 mm long, 1,930 mm wide and 1,625 mm high. The wheelbase is 2,875 mm and the ground clearance is 185 mm.
Interior
The interior has turned out to be minimalistic, and its main detail is a vertically oriented 17-inch multimedia system screen, from which you can control almost all functions. There is a 12.3-inch digital dashboard and a beautiful steering wheel with a flat bottom. The front sports seats are endowed with noticeable lateral support with ventilation, heating and massage functions. The intelligent seat personalization function makes getting in and out of the vehicle more comfortable. The second row is a 3-seater bench. The Seres 5 has a pretty small trunk with a volume of 367 liters. But on the other hand, you can fold the back row to get a whole cubic meter. The SUV is well-equipped, featuring full LED optics, wheels up to 20 inches, head-up display, panoramic roof. Safety is monitored by adaptive cruise control, all-round cameras, dual-zone climate control, a blind spot monitoring system, a voice assistant and a set of airbags.
HUAWEI HiCar solutions allow users to switch between apps on their smartphone and the car’s main computer, providing access to navigation, music and more at any time. For example, you can listen to music from your smartphone through the SUV’s speakers. Interactive voice control allows you to focus on driving. HUAWEI HiCar can connect your vehicle to other smart devices in the Huawei Universal Ecosystem, allowing you to control your home climate system or smart screen directly from your vehicle. The surround sound system features 11 speakers tuned by HUAWEI SOUND and acoustic experts. Combined with improved noise isolation, which keeps the passenger compartment quiet at 38 dB (comparable to the silence in the library), the sound system guarantees high sound quality.
Powertrains
The Seres 5 2023/2024 is available in two versions, both of which can be front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The chassis is made mainly from lightweight aluminum alloy. The suspension of the SUV is all independent.
The fully electric version is equipped with one or two electric motors. The output is 400 or 700 hp, respectively. The vehicle has a traction lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 88 kWh, providing a driving range of 500 km (within the NEDC cycle) for a version with one motor. But the acceleration figures are indicated by the crafty Chinese for a more powerful version: it takes the vehicle 3.5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. The maximum speed reaches 250 km/h.
The hybrid comes with the same electric motors, complemented by a 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine (122 hp). It is not connected to the wheels and its main task is to recharge the traction battery with a capacity of 35 kWh. Such a vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, and the maximum speed is 230 km/h. Fuel consumption is 1.1-1.2 liters per 100 kilometers. The SUV can drive up to 150 km on a single electric charge, after which the generator is connected. Therefore, the total driving range is around 1,000 km.
The manufacturer provides an 8-year warranty (up to 160,000 km) for the battery, electric motor and electrical control system, as well as a 4-year warranty (up to 100,000 km) for the vehicle itself.
