Strategic mysterious stranger
The Skywell ET5 is a new electric SUV by Skywell (China), launched in 2020. It is currently supplied to Europe (Germany) and the USA. The model is expected in the Israeli market.
The ET5 electric vehicle is manufactured by Skywell or Skyworth. Some believe that Huang Hong Shan, who owns both companies, is deliberately trying to confuse the automotive community to make the new electric vehicles more memorable. Skywell Automobile (Tianmei in China), the ET5 manufacturer in Europe, has an ample motto ‘All is Well’. The manufacturer proudly presents the ET5 as one of the New China Made creations. The term probably means new Chinese crafts that do not inherit the bad quality, crazy colors and insecurity of the old Chinese crafts.
It is likely that Huang Hong Shan will take into account the results of promotion of the ET5 in the US and Europe and will bring at least four more electric vehicles to the market before 2025. Therefore, Hong Shan calls the new Skywell ET5 a strategic model for the Chinese brand.
What do we know?
Skywell may indeed be committed to a quality product policy, as the new ET5 is the first Chinese electric vehicle to be officially licensed in the US under the full name Skywell Imperium ET5, because the sales partner is Imperium Motors (IMC). There are 25 electric vehicles available in California that can already be tested. IMC promises to bring the ET5 to the Los Angeles Auto Show and CES in January 2022. And in Europe, Skywell Imperium ET5 is already available in Germany, but under a completely different name, Elaris Beo.
In fact, we know nothing more interesting about the new electric vehicle. The technical parameters of the 2020/2021 Skywell ET5 are rather mediocre, but not bad, which will probably be offset by the low Chinese price.
Interesting features of the ET5
The Skywell ET5 SUV can attract buyers with its self-developed comfort and safety technologies. Here we can hope to see something interesting, since Skyworth is a technology giant, a major manufacturer of electronics and electrical goods. The electric SUV offers an official driving range of up to 520 km, a promising autonomous driving assistance system and some kind of intelligent Skylink system that connects the vehicle with the house, and there are 15 different ‘smart travel’ options, whatever that means.
Of special note is the new Skywell ET5’s “world”s first patented system for healthy sleep’… for the driver. The bottom line is that the driver’s seat folds out completely and turns into an ergonomic sleep seat. No, it’s great to sleep while driving, but how and when? It would be better if the vehicle was fully autonomous. For now, the SUV offers Level 2 autonomy.
