Tesla Cybertruck is an all-electric pickup truck, produced since 2021 by Tesla Motors. The truck is designed in the cyberpunk style. It may be rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) and has three modifications: with 1, 2, or 3 motors. Since 2021, the first-generation Cybertruck is available in the market of Israel.

Transparent cab, bullet-proof glass, acceleration in no time, big and stylish, - these are things that impress the enthusiastic review of those lucky guys who happened to take a ride on this truck.

Tesla received more than 500K pre-orders for this all-electric truck. Mass production will start in 2021 or later. Elon Musk promised to improve the design of Cybertruck a little bit before mass production will start.

Origin

Tesla’s new electric pickup has an exoskeleton (structural body) unlike the frame in conventional pickups. The body of the Cybertruck is made of super-strong steel, which is used in the construction of SpaceX’s space rockets. It is resistant to blows of a sledgehammer and shots from weapons. At least that’s what Elon Musk claims. Although, when the chief designer of Tesla Motors, Franz von Holzhausen, tried to break the glass of the pickup with a metal ball at the presentation of the car, then… they broke. Musk joked that “he has a lot to work on.” And that “we”ll erase it on video.’

Elon Musk first spoke in public about Tesla’s creation of its electric pickup, similar to the Ford F-250, back in 2012. In 2014, he announced that it would take 4-5 years to create such a model. In 2016, Musk announced a pickup truck with completely new properties. In 2017, the size of the future electric truck was determined as “at least a Ford F-150”. In March 2019, immediately after the launch of Tesla Model Y, Elon Musk showed an image of the future pickup truck and then announced that it would be made in the cyberpunk style, and “maybe not everyone will like it because of its futuristic shapes and personal secure transport style”. The pickup prototype was then scrapped in preparation for the 2019 show. And finally, on November 22, 2019, the long-awaited public premiere of the Tesla Cybertruck electric pickup prototype took place.

First generation

The pickup is stylized as cars from the movie ‘Blade Runner’. And, indeed, Musk was right. The appearance of the novelty became the object of the most fierce controversy. Someone considers the car too primitive, and someone admires its appearance and calls it incredible and cosmic. The declared carrying capacity of the pickup is about 1.6 tons. The pickup should travel between 400 and 800 km on a single charge, depending on the model. Three main modifications of the pickup model will be available for order: with one, two, and three electric motors.

According to Elon Musk, Tesla’s new electric pickup Cybertruck will be able to overcome deep fords and “stay afloat for a while”. The electric pickup received an adaptive air suspension. The Cybertruck prototype is now 5885 mm long, 2027 mm wide, and 1905 mm high, clearance is 400mm, the trunk volume is 2800 liters. The angle of arrival is 35 degrees. The exit angle is 28 degrees.

Modifications

It may be rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD), and has three modifictions: with 1, 2, or 3 electric motors.

  • The Single Motor basic version of the pickup has a rear-wheel drive and is equipped with one electric motor. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes about 6.5 seconds. The maximum speed is 177 km/h. The car can travel up to 400 kilometers without recharging. This version of the Cybertruck has a payload of 1587 kg and can tow a trailer weighing up to 3.4 tons. You will have to pay at least $ 39,900 for such a car.
  • The Dual Motor AWD middle modification of the pickup has an all-wheel drive and is equipped with two electric motors. Such a car accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, the maximum speed is 193 km/h. The pickup has a payload of 1,587 kg and can tow up to 4.5 tons of cargo. Car pricing starts with $ 49,900.
  • The Tri Motor top modification is equipped with three electric motors at once. One engine is on the front axle and two on the rear. The car accelerates to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds, which makes the new car one of the fastest pickups in the world. The maximum speed of this Cybertruck is about 210 km/h. It can travel over 800 kilometers on a single charge. The carrying capacity of the pickup truck is 1587 kg, the trailer is 6350 kg. The cost of the top version is $ 69,900.

Equipment

Cybertruck has the following characteristics: 250 kW Supercharge, leaf spring suspension, 110 and 220V outlets. Like all other Tesla cars, you can order the autopilot for an additional $ 7,000.

The standard model will use an adjustable air suspension to compensate for load variations. The pickup will have inverters on board to support 110 and 220V outlets, allowing it to take advantage of the machine’s power without a portable generator. An air compressor required for air suspension is also present. Cameras in the car allow automatic parallel parking.

The battery allows you to change the travel distance on one full charge from 400 to 800 km. Battery capacity approx. 100 kWh. The driver’s seat is so large that it allows a very large person to sit in it. Full cabin tightness is optionally available, allowing the Cybertruck to be used as an amphibious vehicle.
