Tesla, Ford and Porsche recall their electric cars

Tesla

Tesla is recalling 2,791 cars due to suspension problems. The reason is quite serious: the front left wishbone can be detached from the chassis, which may result in an accident, involving rollover and collision with other vehicles. This defect can occur on the Model 3 cars built between 2019 and 2021, as well as the Model Y cars built from 2020 to 2021. All problems will be fixed by the manufacturer for free. Tesla claims that it is not aware of any injuries resulting from the dangerous drawback of its cars, which immediately raises the question: how is this even possible?

Tesla, Model 3.

The arm could be attached to the subframe in an incorrect manner. According to the company’s report: “A multi-spindle tool, which secures the fasteners simultaneously, has been applied to the assembly step. The tool”s loosening feature was disabled by default and programmed to lock itself from further action if there are three unsuccessful attempts to secure a fastener. The operator cannot unlock the tool to loosen or back out a bolt without a production manager”s inspection and approval”.

Tesla, Model Y.

Tesla does not provide any details on how the issue appeared, and its only recommendation is to make an appointment at a service center via the Tesla app. The manufacturer will either tighten the fastener correctly or replace the fastener completely. The company has already started sending out email notifications, and by the end of the year, notification letters will be delivered to owners of defective cars.

Ford Motor Company

The Ford Mustang Mach-E cars that were assembled between February 24 and June 18, 2021 are also recalled due to improperly attached windshields and sunroofs. In Canada, this recall covered about 5 thousand cars, and in America and Europe, 38 714 cars need to be recalled! The thing is that the windshield can fall off in a crash, and 27,318 Mustang cars also have a problem with a sunroof connection that can spontaneously detach while driving. Ford Motor Company says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with these assembly defects, but will replace the windshield and sunroof at dealerships.

Porsche

Porsche has a less serious problem. In mid-October 2021, the company announced that it would recall 11,827 Taycan electric cars (2020 and 2021 model years) sold in the US. This is almost the entire Taycan batch sold in America, although the reason for the recall is not so serious and is designated as " incorrect activation of hazard lights’, which turn on in non-emergency situations. This can confuse other drivers, increasing the risk of an accident. Automatic hazard lights can be triggered on the Taycan electric cars (including the Cross Turismo) built from October 21, 2019 to September 17, 2021. They do not meet the requirements of the US Federal Road Safety Standard No. 108.

Recalls are quite common. What do you think of it?
