Toyota Aygo. From hatchback to crossover
The 2021/2022 Toyota Aygo X is based on the Prologue concept car. Toyota proudly calls the new Aygo X a crossover. And it is one of a kind in class A. The compact vehicle has inherited only a few elements from the real crossovers, including black plastic body kit, 11 mm higher ground clearance, as well as large wheels with a diameter of 17 or 18 inches (instead of 15 inches). But formally, all SUV standards are in place, so the new third-generation Toyota Aygo X is no longer a hatchback. The vehicle will only have a 5-door body and will have a stronger windshield slope. The model will be equipped with 1.0-liter engine, coupled with two gearboxes to choose from. The production of new items will begin in December 2021 at the Czech Toyota plant.
Israeli buyers can purchase the second generation Toyota Aygo hatchback, restyled in 2018. It comes with 72 hp gasoline engine. The maximum speed is limited to 160 km/h. The vehicle is very fuel-efficient, consuming on average only 4.2 liters per 100 km, and 3.8 liters on the highway.
Exterior
The Toyota Aygo X is designed by the French studio ED2. The vehicle is larger than its predecessors. It has a folding soft top, rear door windows that can be folded back, and the fifth door with a solid glass panel. The Aygo X is built on the same GA-B platform (a kind of TNGA architecture) as the Yaris family.
Equipped with LED optics, this compact vehicle is 3,700 mm long, 1,740 mm wide and 1,510 mm high. Due to a decent wheelbase of 2,430 mm, the interior has become a little more spacious. Interestingly, the seats are positioned 55 mm above the road, justifying the title of a crossover, and due to their wider design they could be slightly moved away from each other. An important bonus: the trunk has grown to 231 liters (versus 168 liters). If you fold the back row, you get 829 liters.
Powertrains
The model comes with a well-known 1.0-liter 1KR-FE naturally aspirated 3-cylinder engine, developing 72 hp. The entry-level version has a 5-speed manual transmission, while a CVT is provide for an additional charge. The acceleration to 100 km/h occurs in 15.6 seconds, and the maximum speed is 158 km/h. The modification with a CVT offers 15.5 seconds and 151 km/h. There won’t be a hybrid version, as it would increase the vehicle price. But the gasoline version also consumes only 4.7 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.
Interior and equipment
The Aygo X has seven airbags, including the central one between the front seats. The basic equipment includes a package of electronic driver assistants Toyota Safety Sense (a small crossover ‘knows’ how to recognize pedestrians and cyclists, avoids obstacles and collisions, and can use an adaptive cruise control with a front camera and radar). The list of options includes the Toyota Smart Connect media system (9-inch screen) and the JBL sound system with a subwoofer in the trunk.
