Volkswagen ID.7. Another electric car in the ID model range
The Volkswagen ID.7 is a new electric sedan of the German automaker Volkswagen, unveiled as a concept car at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The history of its creation began in 2017 with the I.D. Vizzion concept car, renamed to Volkswagen ID. Aero in June 2022. Even then, Volkswagen referred the ID. Aero to the luxury segment, mainly due to its spectacular appearance, clearly positioning as a competitor to the Tesla Model 3. And now we see the ID.7 as close as possible to the production version, another electric car in the ID model range. A large, almost 5-meter sedan will replace the Volkswagen Passat. The production version will start being released in the second quarter of 2023.
In 2022, Volkswagen Group sold 352,000 models in the electric vehicle market in Europe, which is a quarter more than in 2021. Since the premiere of the ID.3 hatchback (in 2020), Volkswagen has already sold half a million electric vehicles from the ID-model range, which also includes the ID.4 SUV, the ID.5 coupe-like SUV, the ID.6 SUV and the ID. Buzz minivan. The ID.7 sedan will be the second global model on the MEB platform (after the ID.4).
The new Volkswagen ID.7 will receive an augmented reality head-up display, touch-sensitive sliders with backlight and smart climate control (automatic recognition of the driver and passengers, voice control), while the driving range of the new car reaches up to 700 kilometers. That is why it was shown at the exhibition of new electronics: the future electric car will provide a new level of quality and top technologies.
Exterior
The concept car of the future electric car has a design inspired by other models of the ID model range. The car has large 20-inch wheels, as well as a body that shimmers due to a colored electroluminescent film, which consists of 40 thinnest layers (such a finish will probably not enter mass production). Using the electroluminescence mechanism, 22 body parts can be individually illuminated. And if you combine them with a sound system, then the car will pulsate to the beat of the music. The car will be offered in sedan and shooting-break bodies. The production car will be 4,940 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,530 mm high. The sedan boasts a wheelbase of about three meters, a spacious interior and an aerodynamically optimized front end and roof shape.
Interior
The interior of the Volkswagen ID.7 is brand new, with a miniature digital dashboard for the driver and a 15-inch multimedia touchscreen and projection screen. Climate control is intelligent, and it works like this: you say ‘I have cold hands’, the car turns on the heated steering wheel and directs the deflectors to your hands.
Powertrains
The 2023 Volkswagen ID.7 is based on the famous MEB platform. The entry-level version is a rear-wheel drive rear-engine version, and more powerful versions will have two electric motors and all-wheel drive. A sports version of the GTX is also promised. It is known that the maximum driving range will be 700 km.
Volkswagen’s production electric car will premiere in the second quarter of 2023. The Volkswagen ID.7 will be produced in China and Germany. The car will be sold in Europe, China and North America.
