Acura MDX. Now sporty Type S
The fourth generation mid-size luxury Acura MDX SUV was released a year ago, and at the same time the upcoming powerful Type S version was announced. In November 2021, the Acura MDX Type S was officially presented. The vehicle features a powerful V6 engine with 360 hp, 10-speed automatic and four-wheel drive. The Acura MDX is the brand’s first sporty SUV to have a separate sporty version Type S and the first Acura vehicle to be equipped with an air suspension. The vehicle appeared in public in June at the Pikes Peak race, where it served as a towing car for a trailer with a TLX Type S racing sedan. You can find the newcomer at dealerships in December 2021.
The mighty SUV modification looks ‘meaner’ and more aggressive thanks to the fine mesh radiator grille, new bumpers, black decorative details and an exhaust system with four pipes instead of the usual rectangular ones. The nameplates with the corporate red letter ‘S’ have stayed. The sporty interior features leather upholstery with embossed seats, a rim-trimmed steering wheel and wood veneer decor. The new sports SUV offers such options as front seat massage settings, a 25-speaker sound system with a total power of 1000 watts.

The 2021 Acura MDX Type S engine is a 3-liter direct-injection turbocharged V6 with 360 hp and a torque of 480 Nm. The engine can only be linked to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Acura SH-AWD system implies the use of the same unit as in the base MDX, but with the possibility of traction vectoring.
The developers have added a Sport+ driving mode for a wild ride. To maintain stability at different speeds and surfaces, the vehicle has received an air suspension, which is capable of changing the ground clearance from 170 mm to 239 mm! The ‘regular’ Acura vehicles have a fixed indicator of 185 mm. The shock absorbers are adaptive, which fully corresponds to the sporty character of the vehicle and its suspension settings. There are large 21-inch wheels, as well as Brembo brakes with 4-piston mechanisms at the front.
