BYD Atto 3. 1st generation 2022
The BYD Atto 3 is a compact electric SUV that will be available from fall 2022. According to the manufacturer, the vehicle is designed ‘with the needs of European customers in mind’. The model is equipped with the ‘revolutionary’ Blade battery, offering a driving range of 420 km, and has been awarded 5 stars in the Euro NCAP safety rating. The first generation BYD Atto 3 is currently delivered to Israel, so this electric vehicle clearly deserves more attention.
Two other BYD models are offered in Israel: a 4-door electric sedan BYD Han EV priced at 300,527 shekels, as well as a large electric SUV BYD Tang EV600 priced at 284,527 shekels. The new Atto 3 is cheaper and costs from 157,037 shekels (as of 2022).
Exterior
The BYD Atto 3 features an eye-catching front-end: beautiful headlights, underlined by the ‘eyelashes’ of the traffic lights, between them there is a silver panel with the inscription BYD in the center. In profile, everything is standard: a slightly sloping roofline and a rising line of the windows, as well as a diamond-shaped chrome element on a wide C-pillar. The SUV sports 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels and a spoiler. Overall dimensions: 4,445 × 1,875 × 1,615 mm (length x width x height). Its wheelbase is 2,720 mm and the ground clearance reaches 15 cm.
Interior
The interior is designed in a style, ‘reflecting a positive and energetic approach to life’. Namely, there is a small steering wheel with wide spokes that can accommodate many keys, a huge rotating screen (12.8 or 15.6 inches, depending on configuration) and a center console that looks like a treadmill. There is also a wireless charger for your smartphone. The interior is finished with environmentally friendly materials, the mood lighting automatically responds to the rhythm of sound music (in the top-end version). The front seats are heated and electrically adjustable. The trunk volume is 440 liters.
Motors
The new BYD Atto 3 has received a single electric motor mounted on the front axle. Its maximum power is 207 hp and 310 Nm. The energy consumption of the new vehicle is 15.6 kWh per 100 km, while the driving range is 420 km (according to the WLTP cycle). The SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds, while the maximum speed is 160 km/h. The manufacturer promises that ‘an advanced energy-saving heat pump system’ is standard and ‘operates reliably over a wide temperature range’. The system is designed to maximize the use of waste heat from the environment, powertrain, cabin and even batteries. This improves thermal efficiency and reduces energy loss when heating or cooling.
Versions
There are two versions of the BYD Atto 3 2022/2023 for Israel: ‘Comfort’ and ‘Design’. Both have 7 airbags and plenty of electronic assistance systems, including Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) systems. This, in fact, helped the SUV earn 5 stars in the Euro NCAP safety rating. The Comfort version does not have an electric tailgate, a system for monitoring and purifying the air in the passenger compartment, as well as interior lighting. The rest is the same for both versions: a panoramic roof, electric mirrors, etc.
