Han EV. Close to trend-setters
The BYD Han EV is an all-electric business sedan produced by BYD (China) since 2020. It can be both front- and all-wheel drive.
We should thank BYD for constructing an electric sedan, which is a beam of light in the dark realm of similar SUVs. Moreover, the Han has received great reviews from a significant number of experts who claim the new model came close in terms of quality to the trend-setting Tesla Model 3.
Exterior
Top designers from Mercedes-Benz and Audi have worked on the exterior of the electric Han. As a result, it looks good, long, aerodynamic (drag coefficient 0.233), and elegant, just as a modern premium electric car should look like. The Han is a rather large sedan, 4,980 mm long, 1,910 mm wide and 1,495 mm high, with the wheelbase of 2,920 mm.
Powertrains
The new BYD Han is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery with a capacity of 76.9 kW/h, providing a driving range of up to 550 km. The battery (‘Blade Battery’) is developed by BYD. The automaker claims that it takes up less space than a conventional LFP battery with the same energy capacity and is more resistant to mechanical damage. The electric car has an option for fast charging with direct current. It is capable of charging the battery from 30 to 80% in 25 minutes.
The maximum output of the front axle engine is 163 kW, the maximum torque is 330 Nm, the maximum engine output of the rear axle is 200 kW, the maximum torque is 350 Nm and the total system output is 363 kW. The total torque is 680 Nm. Noteworthy is the time of acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is only 3.9 seconds for the top-end all-wheel drive version.
The entry-level Han Extended Range is rear-wheel drive with a 163 kW (219 hp) electric motor that can accelerate the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. The high-performance Flagship has four-wheel drive with an optional 200 kW (270 hp) front engine with a total power output of 363 kW (487 hp).
Interior and equipment
The interior of the 2020/2021 BYD Han is modeled after the models of luxury brands. That’s why it can boast smooth arched lines, high-quality finish, and saturation with light of a large interior. The Han has some premium features unusual for Chinese cars, such as ventilation and seat heating, high-temperature sterilization of the car, air purification in the passenger compartment, steering and even forwarding and reversing via a smartphone.
The electric car control system is equipped with a voice recognition function of the intelligent BYD DiLink 3.0 system developed by the company. The system contains a lot of useful information, for example, you can ask an electric car to find a restaurant. The car also features a high level of interior sound insulation, which Chinese cars could never boast of. Han’s soundproofing is only slightly inferior to the Tesla Model 3 and even the Audi A6L.
As for safety, the new 2021 BYD Han EV has not yet passed any crash tests, but is fully equipped with a full set of airbags, active safety options, advanced features.
