Bugatti and Rimac begin official cooperation
On November 2, 2021, Bugatti and Rimac has officially joined their forces by forming the ‘Bugatti Rimac’ joint company - only four months after the initial announcement. The new company is headquartered in Croatia. 45% of the shares of the new joint venture are owned by Porsche AG, and 55% belong to Croatia’s Rimac Group. By the way, the distribution of its own shares has changed since the summer. Thus, the new securities were issued, and the shares of the previous owners were reduced. Bugatti Rimac is led by Mate Rimac, who founded the Rimac Group in 2009 in Sveta Nedelja near Zagreb, Croatia.
Mate Rimac is a Croatian innovator, entrepreneur and founder of the Croatian electric vehicle company Rimac Automobili and Greyp Bikes, a high-tech e-bike company. Some have compared Rimac to Elon Musk, and the Croatian brand Rimac Automobili has been nicknamed the "European Tesla".
Today, the Rimac Group is considered one of the leaders in the field of electrification. Rimac’s fast-paced workflows and cutting-edge development capabilities are the perfect complement to Bugatti’s tradition and excellence. Stefan Winkelmann, who headed Bugatti since January 2018, has left his post, focusing exclusively on his work as Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.
Bugatti’s French plant in Molsheim will continue producing the Bugatti Chiron and its modifications, and all 135 employees will keep their jobs. In 2024, production of the Chiron-based Bugatti Bolide hypercars will begin there. Rimac will now design new Bugatti models, for which Rimac Campus Science and Technology Center is being built in Croatia. This is a complex with an area of about 200,000 square meters and a price of 200 million euros. The Bugatti and Rimac brands will remain independent, but the equipment will be unified, and Bugatti will eventually switch to electric vehicles.
One of Rimac's supercars, the C_Two, is a 100% electric hypercar, proving that the dream of joining Koenigsegg and Pagani has already been fulfilled. The road car with the fastest acceleration, the highest power in history (415 km/h) and acceleration to 100 km/h in less than 2 seconds. That's what electric cars can do! And it looks awesome.
