2020 Koenigsegg Gemera Coupe. 1st generation
In 2020, Koenigsegg added a four-seater model, Koenigsegg Gemera, to its range. It is an all-wheel drive 2-door coupe featuring a hybrid system, a completely unusual transmission and eight cup holders. A small but ambitious and very talented company from Sweden, Koenigsegg, has become famous for its two-seater supercars, which have repeatedly successfully fought for the title of the fastest cars in the world. The founder of the company and its owner, Christian von Koenigsegg, has decided to continue the development of the brand in the direction that is very popular in the top car segment. Thus, the company has started creating four-seater hypercars. The new Koenigsegg Gemera should become the most large scale car in the brand’s model range. And it’s not a joke! They plan to produce as many as 300 cars.
General description
The creators call their car ‘Mega GT’. According to Christian von Koenigsegg, the Gemera is a representative of a completely new class of hypercars featuring a spacious and comfortable interior. The car is rather big. It is 4,975 mm long, 1,988 wide and 1,295 mm high, and has a wheelbase that equals exactly to three meters. It is not surprising that even very tall people will feel comfortable in the car. The passenger compartment can easily sit four passengers who carry a small amount of luggage (there are a couple of small compartments for it: in the front and in the back). The presentation of the new model looked very impressive: four 2 meter tall guys easily got into a road-hugging coupe with spectacular lifting doors. The Gemera blows up preconceived notions of super-powerful supercars.
Powertrains and chassis
This is a hybrid, but what’s truly interesting is that the powertrain of this Swedish car comprises a small 2-liter 3-cylinder engine. According to the Swedish traditional respect for nature, this engine runs not only on regular petrol, but also on biofuels, including those obtained from renewable raw materials: ethanol, methanol and an E85 blend. The engine has its own name “TFG” or “Tiny Friendly Giant”, which is easy to explain: it weighs only 70 kg, but thanks to the twin turbocharging, it develops 608 hp, and it is accompanied by three powerful electric motors. One of them is installed on the rear wheels (507 hp), and the other (405 hp) is located on the crankshaft of the internal combustion engine. By the way, the engine does not have camshafts, which are placed by pneumohydroelectric valve actuators (PHEA).
Overall, the hybrid system develops more than 1,700 hp and 3,500 Nm of torque. The car is capable of accelerating to 100 km/h in just 1.9 seconds. Its top speed is limited to 400 km/h developed in 20 seconds.

Its top speed is limited to 400 km/h developed in 20 seconds. The electric motors are powered by an 800 V battery with a capacity of about 15 kilowatt-hours, providing a drive range of up to 50 kilometers and accelerate without starting an internal combustion engine up to 300 kilometers per hour.
There is no traditional gearbox. The megacar features its proprietary transmission, the KDD, consisting of a hydraulic variable torque slipping clutch and a main gear with a constant gear ratio. The megacar is all-wheel drive. By default, the Gemera is equipped with third-generation Aircore carbon-fiber wheels fastened to a central nut. The front ones are 21-inch, whereas the rear ones are 22-inch. The standard ground clearance is only 117 mm.
Equipment
The list of equipment of the 2021 Koenigsegg Gemera includes: six ‘smart’ airbags, ABS, traction control, adaptive cruise control, ISOFIX mounts for child seats in the second row, an infotainment system with 11 speakers, Apple CarPlay and multiple displays, 3- zone climate control, wireless internet, front and rear wireless smartphone charging stations, four cooled and four heated cup holders and a reading light system.
