The Lotus Exige is a compact two-seater coupe manufactured by Lotus Cars (UK). It has been produced since 2000 and is a more powerful version of the Lotus Elise in the coupe body. Starting with the third generation, the latest in the history of the model, it is equipped with a large 3.5-liter V6 engine instead of the Elise’s inline 4-cylinder engine. The model will be discontinued in 2021, so the manufacturer is currently offering three final versions of the Exige to bid farewell to the iconic sports car.

However, Lotus Cars will continue its journey. There are some major changes ahead. Thus, the company is currently working on the 2,000 hp Evija all-electric hypercar and plans to expand production with the support of its current owner, the mighty Geely (China). The manufacturer plans to launch a comfortable model, which, hopefully, will conquer the world, like its magnificent ancestors.

Distinctive features

The car comes with an engine combined with an Edelbrock mechanical supercharger without intercooling and a 6-speed Toyota EA60 gearbox. The Lotus Exige has always been a compact sports car that has been highly prized by those who love extreme driving. Such characteristics as high power, modern technologies, including a safe plastic body and a lightweight aluminum alloy chassis, bright harmonious design attract the attention of the most demanding audience.

In the summer of 2020, the Exige acquired a modern digital display that could replace the original factory gauges. The device fits perfectly into the front panel and features a high-contrast 6-inch TFT screen. It is intended primarily for those who love track racing, has built-in GPS technology and information on 4,127 race tracks around the world. The system will automatically detect that the driver is on one of these tracks, allow them to calculate the lap time and analyze their results. There is also a connector for a portable action camera to film the ride.

2021 final series

Three final versions of the Exige:

  • The Sport 390 Final Edition weighing 1,138 kg produces 402 hp and 420 Nm of torque, accelerating to 97 km/h in 3.7 seconds, and developing a top speed of 277 km/h. Its exterior features silver forged wheels with a diameter of 16 inches on the front axle and 17 inches on the rear axle.
  • The Sport 420 Final Edition is even more powerful. It weighs 1,110 kg. The engine develops 426 hp and 427 Nm. The car reaches a speed of 97 km/h in just 3.3 seconds. It features an upgraded suspension, more powerful AP Racing brakes with four-piston calipers and lightweight forged wheels in dark gray with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires (215/45 ZR17 front and 285/30 ZR18 rear).
  • The Cup 430 Final Edition has an engine with 435 hp and 440 Nm of torque, coupled with the Ivora GT430 transmission, modified for installation on a smaller Exige. The gearbox allows you to change gears faster. The coupe has a light and expensive titanium alloy exhaust system, a body kit and a carbon fiber roof, demonstrating high downforce at high speeds. Acceleration to 97 km/h occurs in 3.2 seconds, whereas the maximum speed is 280 km/h.
In 2017, Lotus was bought by Geely (China). What do you think about it?
