The Mercedes EQC is an all-electric SUV manufactured by Daimler AG (Germany) since 2018. The Mercedes EQC is the first model of the ‘electric’ sub-brand EQ. In 2021, the 2018 first generation SUV can be found on the Israeli market.

Distinctive features

On video: Mercedes EQC 2018 year. SUV.

The 2018/2019 Mercedes EQC is a 5-seater city luxury SUV, based on the GLC model, which is much larger than the original model. Both models share the same platform with a wheelbase of 2,873 mm, fully independent suspension, double wishbone suspension at the front and multi-link suspension at the rear. The EQC is 4,762 mm long, 1,884 mm wide and 1,623 mm high. The rear trunk holds 500 liters. However, the vehicle comes without a front trunk (there is a control electronics unit under the hood). The first electric crossover Mercedes is suitable for travel, surprisingly smooth and comfortable for long trips, very agile and quite efficient. It is also capable of towing a trailer weighing up to 1,800 kg. Depending on the trim level, its wheels may have 19-21-inch diameter.

Exterior

The 2020/2021 Mercedes EQC is classified as an SUV. At the same time, the slightly sloping roof and lowered rear door windows visually make it look like a coupe. It is distinguished by a large black panel covering the headlights and radiator grille. On the upper edge, the panel is bordered by an optical fiber, which acts as daytime running lights, creating an almost continuous horizontal illumination at night. The inner housing of MULTIBEAM LED headlights is high-gloss black. Such contrasting color shades indicate that the model belongs to the new EQ family.

Interior and equipment

The interior is quiet and ultra-comfortable, so the driver and passengers won’t feel tired even if the journey is very long. The exclusive EQC interior looks avant-garde, justifying the title of Mercedes' first electric SUV. One of the most striking elements of the interior design is a huge screen that combines the dashboard and the multimedia system, which occupies the entire wide digital panel. In fact, it consists of two separate 10.5-inch monitors each. The left one displays the virtual dashboard, whereas the right one displays the voice-activated multimedia system interface.

Like any luxury car, the new Mercedes EQC has a wide range of equipment. For example, there is such an interesting option as a sports body kit. The list of standard equipment includes all-round camera, navigation, entertainment screen for the front seat, sunroof, interior lighting, leather upholstery, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, automatic parking system, 2 or 3-zone climate control, hands-free trunk opening system, heated and ventilated front seats with electric adjustments and position memory function, multifunction steering wheel, as well as almost a complete set of electronic assistants.

There are several driving modes: Comfort, Eco and Sport and Max Range, in which the electronics minimize energy consumption in order to increase the drive range. Such attributes as soundproofing, smooth running, ionization of the air in the passenger compartment and a silent powertrain speaks of a new era of electric vehicles that has already arrived.

Modifications

The new Mercedes EQC 2021/2022 has a completely new drive system with electric motors located on each axle. With such an arrangement, the SUV acquires four-wheel drive and excellent handling.

In Israeli, the SUV is only available in the EQC AT 408 modification (as of 2021). It is equipped with two electric motors, one on each axle, with a total output of 408 hp and 760 Nm. The battery capacity is 80 kW/h. The drive range is 412 km. The declared consumption is 20.8 kWh per kilometer. The charger is liquid-cooled and has a power of 7.4 kW. It will take you 80 minutes to fully charge your vehicle at a station, and the fast-charging station will recharge your vehicle to 80% in about 40 minutes. The maximum speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in 5.1 seconds.

In your opinion, is it suitable for long journeys?
