Ferrari GTC4 Lusso. Exceptional hatchback
Ferrari GTC4 Lusso is an S-class 3-door sports car hatchback from the Italian company Ferrari of the Italian-American Fiat Chrysler Automobiles group. In production since 2016. Available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions. In 2020 the Israel market offered first generation models of this unique sports car vehicle.
The new Ferrari GTC4 Lusso is an exceptional vehicle that stands out even among the greatest of its fellow sports car models. This car will definitely never go unnoticed in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and will always be the center of everyone’s attention on the road - due to its eye-catching three-door and four-seat hatchback design which makes it a very unique sports car model.
First generation
In production from 2016 to this day (as of 2020). Introduced at the annual Geneva Motor Show in the spring of 2016, the new GTC4 Lusso became the successor to the four-wheel drive FF supercar four-seater, being presented as an improved version of the vehicle. The changes incorporated were made in order to improve the aerodynamic properties of the new vehicle and to reduce its drag coefficient.
Exterior
On the one hand, the exterior of the new Ferrari GTC4 Lusso is still rather reminiscent of the signature look of the FF model. On the other hand, however, it has received quite a few new design features. Just like its predecessor, the new 3-door hatchback is equipped with stylish elongated lens headlights as well as elegant sectioned day running lights. Placed onto the front bumper, there is a small elongated radiator grille consisting of thin horizontal and vertical slats intersecting with one another. Among other eye-catching features, there are some unique aerodynamic details highlighting the sports car nature of the model. Expressive front fender side vents, a rear diffusor with two chrome exhaust nozzles on each side of it – all this gives the car an even more dynamic and powerful look.
Interior and equipment
The interior of the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso 2018/2019 model is the epitome of luxury and elegance. Coexisting harmoniously there are high-quality trimming materials, ergonomically improved details as well as many other useful features providing unforgettable comfortability. Despite being a sports car, the vehicle offers a fantastic driving experience even during long trips. The model has received an improved dashboard, a smaller steering wheel with an improved Manettino control electronics mode switch as well as a redesigned instrument panel. In front of the passenger seat, there is now a big screen located just above the glove compartment with current speed, gear, engine revolution speed, overload data, and many other useful information details displayed on it which were previously only available to the driver. As for the center console, it is now equipped with a 10.25-inch HD multimedia system touch screen with Apple CarPlay support. Apart from all that, the door cards, as well as car seats and the car dashboard, have all underwent a renovation, too.
Motors and dynamics
Ferrari GTC4 Lusso vehicles of the 2016/2017 model year have borrowed the atmospheric engine of the FF model, having also improved it a little. These large 12-cylinder V-shaped devices with a volume of 6.3 liters go into the four-wheel drive vehicles. Thanks to the great liter capacity, an advanced valve control system, and direct fuel injection function, the car engineers managed to give these vehicles a power capacity of 690 hp at 8000 rpm and 697 Nm at 5750 crankshaft revolutions per minute. At the same time, almost 80% of the torque range is already available at 1750 rpm. With such great power potential lying underneath its hood, this supercar model has obtained a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.4 seconds and a maximum speed of 335 km/h. The rear-wheel drive version of the vehicle is equipped with a ‘weaker’ engine – a 3.9-liter V8 turbine motor with a power capacity of 610 hp. With this engine, the GTC4 Lusso vehicle has a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.5 seconds and a maximum speed of 320 km/h.
The engine of the four-wheel drive version is supplied with a 7-speed automatic gearbox as well as the original all-wheel 4RM-S control system with rear-axle steering function. The ‘S’ letter is there for a reason – apart from the rear-wheel steering, it also stands for the Slip Slide Control skid control system which was implemented into the chassis of the vehicle. The latter is also supplied with an E-Diff electronic differential control system as well as SCM-E active dampers. All this, according to the manufacturer, is what ensures excellent steerability of the GTC4 Lusso model in all weather conditions, including rain and snow – if it ever happens to snow here in Israel, of course.
