In 2021, along with the third generation of the popular Nissan Qashqai compact SUV, Nissan introduced the e-Power hybrid version with a total capacity of 190 hp. In Israel, the model comes with a 1.3-liter turbo gasoline engine with a capacity of 156 hp. And only now, in February 2023, the new Nissan Qashqai e-Power hybrid has arrived in Israel. The initial cost of the hybrid version will be around 207,990 shekels, while the entry-level gasoline version will cost 179,990 shekels. The difference of 28,000 is significant, so let’s see whether it is worth it. We’ll make a reservation right away: outwardly, the e-Power looks quite similar to the regular version. The model has acquired corresponding nameplates on the front doors and the fifth door, as well as a new radiator grille.

Hybrid system

The new Nissan Qashqai e-Power is based on a serial hybrid system, consisting of an improved 1.5-liter turbo engine with 156 hp with a variable degree of compression, not associated with the wheels. In fact, the gasoline engine plays only the role of a generator that recharges the battery at 2.3 kWh. The engine is electronically controlled. If only recharging of the traction battery is required, the engine runs in the most efficient mode at low speeds with a high compression ratio (up to 14:1). And if you need to feed not only the battery, but also the traction electric motor, the electronics reduces the compression ratio (up to 8:1) and increases the output of the gasoline engine. The movement itself occurs due to a front electric motor with a capacity of 190 hp. It takes the hybrid Qashqai 7.9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, while the maximum speed is 199 km/h. The mixed fuel consumption is 18.5 km per liter (the entry-level gasoline version consumes 15.6 km per liter). The fuel consumption is not impressive, so why do we need to pay more? Moreover, the hybrid Qashqai also does not have the ability to recharge the battery from a power outlet.

Traction control is purely ‘electromobile’, with instant responses to pressing the accelerator pedal. There is an e-Pedal mode, in which acceleration and deceleration control is performed only by the accelerator pedal. Regenerative deceleration up to 0.2g is carried out up to a speed of about 5 km/h (with the activation of brake lights), after which the standard brakes are activated. In addition, Nissan tweaked the engine noise based on accelerator pedal pressure to create a more natural sensation.

Trim levels and equipment

  • The Acenta Top is an entry-level version, equipped with an 8-inch multimedia screen with extension for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a semi-digital dashboard with a 7-inch screen, smart key, a separate climate control unit, light and rain sensors, a rear-view camera, a panoramic sunroof, 18-inch wheels, tinted rear windows, an electric handbrake and much more.
  • The Acenta Tech is an advanced version, additionally equipped with 12.3-inch multimedia and dashboard screens, a navigation system and wireless connection to Apple CarPlay, an auto-dimming center mirror, a 360-degree camera, air conditioning for rear passengers, and parking sensors.
  • The Tekna is a top-end version, complemented by a wireless charging pad, an overhead display, a power driver’s seat, 19-inch wheels, adaptive headlights, leather trim. The Tekna TT trim level adds two-tone body paint.

Safety

Active lane departure control.

All the 2023 Nissan Qashqai e-Power versions have autonomous braking, adaptive cruise control, active lane departure control, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beams and more. The Tekna trim level adds more advanced adaptive cruise control, which includes traffic jam assist and lane keeping assist.

Undeniable advantage

The new hybrid could easily save Nissan from fines.

We have found one advantage! The hybrid Nissan Qashqai e-Power has an undeniable advantage: carbon dioxide emissions in the mixed cycle will not exceed 119 grams per kilometer. At the same time, the usual gasoline version with a 1.3-liter turbo engine is not so environmentally friendly: emissions vary from 128 to 131 grams per kilometer. European legislation takes into account the average CO2 emissions of the model range, so the new hybrid could easily save Nissan from fines.
