Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. 2nd generation, 2023 restyling
The Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe was introduced in 2015, essentially becoming a coupe-like modification of the restyled ML SUV, named ‘GLE’. In 2019, the manufacturer released the second generation. And now it’s time for a scheduled restyling: the 2023 GLE Coupe was slightly modernized, acquiring the latest MBUX intelligent system and electric motors. Mild hybrids with a 48-volt system and an integrated starter-generator (ISG) are now standard, while plug-in hybrids are a step higher. Moreover, the GLE Coupe is equipped with a number of new systems that made the “supermodel” more adapted to off-road. The restyled GLE Coupe will be on sale no earlier than July 2023. New prices will be announced later.
Exterior
The restyling has not practically touched the exterior. The car looks amazing without any additional improvements! The restyled 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe has got a new radiator grille, comprising a large segmented horizontal bar. The corner air intakes feature the repositioned aerodynamic inserts, and the front lights have retained their shape and have acquired new internal elements. The same applies to the rear lights. In addition, the body color range has expanded: Alpine Gray and Twilight Blue metallics have been added to the previous options. By the way, now the standard for the GLE Coupe is the AMG Line version, which is equipped with 21-inch wheels.
Interior and equipment
The car has received an updated MBUX intelligent system, partially controlled by touch sensors located on the steering wheel spokes. They can also be used to work with the dashboard. The dimensions of both screens are the same 12.3 inches. The finishing has not changed much: there is now a little more chrome in the air vents, but the frames of the ventilation deflectors are now made of real metal, just like the Mercedes-Benz Maybach GLS. But a truly exclusive option appeared: the Piano Black Flowing Lines interior package, which was previously offered only for the Maybach models.
The list of options comprises a route planner for trips with a trailer. It is ready to suggest the best route to your destination, given the size and weight of the towed trailer. Another useful option is a ‘transparent hood’, which helps to see the road in front of the car. In addition, a special Off-Road Engineering package has been added that offers underbody protection, increases ground clearance by 30 mm, and displays body roll and wheel angles on the center display.
Powertrains
The new Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe is built on the MHA (Modular High Architecture) platform, which is also used by the GLE and GLS crossovers. The vehicle comes with a double-link front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension, while it is possible to install Airmatic air suspension or hydropneumatic E-Active Body Control.
The crossover coupe is equipped with a wide range of gasoline and diesel engines. But now the entire 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe model range is fully electrified: the entry-level versions feature mild hybrids with a 48-volt system and an integrated starter-generator (ISG), whereas more superior versions are plug-in hybrids. In addition, almost all transmissions offer even more power, with the GLE 400 e 4MATIC having the largest increase (+30 kW).
- The GLE 400 e 4Matic is equipped with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder that, in combination with a 136-horsepower electric motor, produces 381 horsepower and 600 Nm. With this system, the hybrid accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.
