Hyundai Ioniq 6. Europe’s new favorite
In November 2022, a new electric sedan, the Hyundai Ioniq 6, finally appeared in Europe in a version expensive: the entire lot was sold in one day! A similar story happened at home: on the first day of pre-orders alone, over 37,500 were made! Now we can safely say that Europe’s new favorite will become a serious contender for the Tesla Model 3, which, by the way, is on sale in the Israeli market, unlike the Hyundai Ioniq 6. And we sincerely regret that this car is not yet available in Israel, since it is cheaper than a Tesla.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 debuted in July 2022 in the top-of-the-range all-wheel-drive version. The entry-level rear-drive version was announced in October.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 has been imported into Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and the United Kingdom, these four countries being the most important for the South Korean manufacturer for the sale of electric vehicles. The lot consisted of 2,500 parts, but even that was not enough… And this despite the fact that a special First Edition version was offered: such a sedan has a twin-engine system with a capacity of 320 hp, which is powered by the 77.4 kWh traction battery, providing a driving range of 400 to 500 km. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 5 seconds.
Fast facts
The mid-size electric sedan is built on the Hyundai E-GMP platform. The passenger compartment offers plenty of space for passengers and luggage, a flat floor and the wheels are offset at the corners of the body with short overhangs. The car is well equipped, the 800 volt electrical system allows very fast charging: it only takes 18 minutes to charge the car from a fast charger from 10 to 80%.
A modest entry-level car with a 53 kWh battery will not be available in Europe. The European market will offer a battery with a capacity of 77.4 kWh. The driving range of a single-engine version with a capacity of 229 hp reaches 545-614 km with such a battery. Two-engine modifications (321 hp) can travel up to 519-545 km without recharging. And we discovered why there is such a difference between the driving range indicators.
It turns out that the driving range of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 2023 depends on wheel size. Thus, the most powerful twin-engine electric sedan is able to travel up to 545 km without recharging, but only if it is equipped with small 18-inch wheels. The same sedan, but with 20-inch low-profile wheels, travels up to 519 km. For the 228-hp rear-drive version, the larger wheels reduce range from 614 to 545 kilometres.
