Hyundai Ioniq 6. Easy to remember
On June 29, 2022, Hyundai introduced the new Ioniq, a production incarnation of the beautiful Prophecy concept. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is a mid-size electric sedan based on the modular E-GMP platform, which allows rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive versions to be produced with power up to 585 hp. So, the new electric Ioniq 6 is related to such SUVs as Hyundai Ioniq 5, which, by the way, is sold in Israel, Kia EV6, which won the Car of 2022 award in Germany and Genesis GV60, the owner of which does not need keys, because the car recognizes it from the camera video. In addition, the new Ioniq 6 electric sedan is larger than the Tesla Model 3 and is easy to remember!
Today, the first-generation Tesla Model 3 can be purchased on the Israeli market. Find out what the best-selling and safest electric car of all "popular" electric cars looks like and how much it costs. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the Model 3 the highest possible rating of 5 stars in all tests!
The Prophecy concept car was unveiled in March 2020, while information began to appear from June 2022. The production began on July 12, 2022. The new Hyundai Ioniq 6 will be produced at the Asan plant in South Korea, where the Sonata and Grandeur are also manufactured. The car is expected to go on sale in 2023.
Exterior
The manufacturer has for the most part been able to keep the design of the Prophecy concept (a kind of flying saucer), but at the same time has simplified it: the pixels do not completely fill the drop-shaped headlights, the tiny door cameras have become bigger, the rear doors open against movement, etc. The contours are reminiscent of the legendary elongated Audi TT. They were invented by Luc Donckerwolke, who designed the innovative Ioniq 5, Genesis GV60 and Kia EV6 models. He used South Korea’s significant and distinctive automotive heritage in his work.
Luc Donckerwolke is Executive Vice President of Design and Chief Creative Officer of Hyundai Motor Group. In February 2022, he was named the "Person of the Year 2022" by the authoritative jury of the World Car Awards.
The low nose of the car is reminiscent of old Lamborghini models, while the rear reminds you of Porsche models, but the waist line with its curve is simply unique. The door handles are recessed into the body, the rear optics are also pixelated. Of note is Hyundai’s new flat badge, which is aluminum. Thanks to all the tricks, the drag coefficient Cd has been reduced to 0.21, which is one of the lowest rates in the world. It remains to add that the new Ioniq 6 is a very large car: its length is 4,855 mm, its width is 1,888 mm, its height is 1,495 mm, and its wheelbase is 2,950 mm.
Interior and equipment
The car’s long wheelbase, characteristic of electric cars, provides a spacious interior. The interior looks like a welcoming and modern cocoon with no frills. In addition, recycled materials are used in the decoration. On the front panel, we find a pair of screens of 12 inches each. The interior lighting sparkles with 64 colors.
Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, specially designed for electric vehicles, has an 800V charge that allows you to recharge from 10 to 80% in just 10 minutes
The Ioniq 6 is equipped with an advanced next-generation SmartSense security system. It includes, for example, the ‘Highway Driving Assist 2’ system, which maintains the center of the lane even when driving around relatively tight bends. Adaptive cruise control, even when not activated, learns the driver’s driving style. There is also a perfect automatic braking system. The safe exit system and all-around camera are complemented by a remote automatic parking assistant, a rear cross-traffic control system with autonomous braking, a blind-spot monitoring system, and this is not a complete list.
Powertrains
The 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 offers the same engines as the Ioniq 5. There are rear-wheel drive versions with a 229 hp engine or all-wheel drive versions with engines with a total power of 321 hp. This version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds, and the range of the rear-wheel-drive model exceeds 610 km within the WLTP cycle! That’s 100 km more than the Ioniq 5.
As for the batteries, the entry-level models have received a battery with a capacity of 53 kWh, and the higher versions have received batteries with a capacity of 77.4 kWh. According to the manufacturer, the new Ioniq 6 is one of the most energy-efficient electric vehicles, consuming only 14 kWh per 100 km, or 140 watt hours per kilometer. The E-GMP platform, specially created by Hyundai for electric vehicles, offers 800V charging, which allows you to recharge from 10 to 80% of the charge in just 10 minutes.
