Lamborghini. Incarnation of speed and wealth
Revolutionary, inspiring, inimitable - every Lamborghini model deserves these epithets. Lamborghini has always been a symbol of quality, speed, and wealth. Its story shows, that a big dream and stobborness may help achieve every goal, even if the goal is buildin high-level supercars! Lamborghini is not just an Italian brand producing expensive sports cars, it’s a symbol of a great competitive spirit, firmness, and ability to achieve a goal. Today’s owner of Lamborghini is an automotive giant and leader - Volkswagen Group that also owns Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti, Scania, Škoda, Ducati, MAN AG, and 49.9% of shares in Porsche… So the Lamborghini brand is in a good company :)
Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A… In short, they are called Lamborghini or just Lambo… Everyone has cherished a dream as a child. Lambo is a dream, the one a boy may have – to drive a crazy Lamborghini Diablo of yellow color! To feel like a real racer, like a little toreador who tames the power of a magnificent bull. Why exactly a bull? All Lamborghini cars have a logo with the bull, and most models of this brand were called that have something to do with the corrida. And here we are. The name ‘Diablo’, the Spanish for ‘Devil’, belonged to a fierce bull killed in a bullfight in Madrid in 1869.
Grabbing life by the horns
Some say that if there was no Ferrari, there would be no Lamborghini. We don’t think so. Such an amazing man as Ferruccio Lamborghini would still be able to create his own inimitable car even without Ferrari! Lamborghini not only became the face of supercars all over the world but also competed with Enzo Ferrari himself! And this was almost impossible to do…
The legendary brand entered the gateway to fame almost 60 years when a successful businessman called Ferruccio Lamborghini, the company owner, engaged in the production of tractors with the logo of the golden bull, bought two Ferrari cars. After driving these cars for a while, he realized that it would be nice to improve them a little :) He contacted Enzo Ferrari himself with his proposals. The legendary creator of the best racing cars of their time answered that the farmer, who produces tractors, should not give advice to a person who has been both a racer and a designer of sports cars for many years.
Lamborghini’s pride and ego were hurt so much that he decided to create his own car to overcome Ferrari! It should have been the world’s best sports car. This way, the history of the Lamborghini brand began in 1963. Determined and strong-willed Ferruccio Lamborghini, born under the sign of Taurus, always achieved his goals and became the founder of the company. By the time, Ferruccio decided to set up a company to produce luxury sports cars, he was already a wealthy man. He could afford investing a lot in producing a new car. But that wasn’t enough. What he needed most of all was the help of the best professionals in this business.
Lamborghini decided to create his own car to overcome Ferrari! This way, the history of the Lamborghini brand began in 1963.
As fate would have it, Enzo Ferrari lost several employees at the same time. These people could not stand the nasty temper of the designer. The enterprising Ferruccio wasn’t confused and employed the engineers. They started developing the company’s first creation. To create an engine that was supposed to be the best V-shaped 12-cylinder car in the industry (and thus the world’s best), he immediately contacted Giotto Bizzarrini, who developed several of the latest engines for Ferrari.
This way the first Lamborghini model, 350 GTV, appeared and became a real masterpiece! Right away, its modification, 400 GT, was also presented. The engine volume in this version was increased to 4L, it was equipped with the first gearbox designed by Lamborghini, and it could accelerate up to 250 km/h. But this Lamborghini model could not yet bypass the Ferrari…
Miura bull
In 1965, Lamborghini Miura was born. And now it was already more popular than Ferrari. The orange Miura, which Lamborghini parked at the Hotel de Paris when he arrived at the Grand Prix in Monte Carlo, attracted so many idlers that they occupied the entire square. It was the rapid rise of the Lamborghini!
Miura was developed by young talented Lamborghini engineers, who offered to prepare a slightly simplified version of a full sports car for public roads. Their development was equipped with a 4-L 12-cylinder engine of the 400 GT model, and the chassis was made of curved welded sheet metal with holes drilled in to reduce the weight.
It was this extravagant chassis that was destined to have a significant impact on the company history and the entire automotive industry. When Nuccio Bertone, owner of the famous Torino bodywork shop, saw it, he walked up to Lamborghini and said: ‘I’m the one who can make a shoe for your foot! ’ The handshake of Bertone and Lamborghini was the beginning of an incredible adventure. This way, the unique and provocative bodywork for this unusual running gear appeared. This way, the Miura was born, a model unique in its combination of aggressiveness, elegance, originality, and luxury.
It’s still unknown why the supercar received such a name. For Lamborghini, who was born under the sign of Taurus and proudly used this sign as a logo for all his industrial activities, the very idea to name one of his models. It’s still unclear why the supercar has this name. For Lamborghini, who was born under the sign of Taurus and proudly used this sign as a logo for all his industrial activities, the very idea to name one of his models after the fighting bull seems natural. The bulls of the Miura breed are extraordinary! They are not just the strongest of all fighting bulls, but most importantly – the smartest and fiercest in the bullfight. In their books, toreadors often say that the look of the bull Miura breed can not be confused with anything: it’s the look of a real warrior, discerning and mighty. This name was extremely accurate, and due to its brevity – only five letters – good to remember once and forever.
