The 2023 World Car of the Year finalists have been revealed: a jury of 100 automotive journalists from 32 countries selected the top 10 models from 30 entries. The winners will be announced at the New York Auto Show on April 5, 2023. We remind you that in 2022, one of the most popular Korean electric vehicles in Israel, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, won the first place. In 2023, the following models will compete for the prestigious award:

The Alfa Romeo Tonale SUV, the first plug-in hybrid in the history of the Alfa Romeo brand.

The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe compact sedan with frameless doors and a lowered sloping roof.

The BMW X1 compact SUV along with its electric version, the iX1.

The Honda HR-V compact SUV and the new Honda ZR-V, which came to the US as the next generation HR-V.

The new Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedan, which has already managed to become popular in Europe.

The popular Kia Niro SUV with hybrid and electric propulsion systems, finalist of the Car of the Year 2022 contest in Europe.

The Mazda CX-60 mid-size premium SUV, which debuted in March 2022, is Mazda’s first plug-in hybrid.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class compact executive sedan, estate, 3-door hatchback, coupe and cabriolet, almost the most popular model by Mercedes-Benz.

The new Nissan Ariya electric SUV, which took 3rd place in the European Car of the Year 2022 contest.

The new generation of the legendary rear-wheel drive sports coupe, the Nissan Z.

Other nominations

In addition, the jury selected finalists in additional categories: Best Green Car, Best Sports Car, Best Design and Best City Car. There’s even an Automotive Person of the Year award that pitted Hyundai and Genesis Design Chief Sang Yup Lee, Lucid CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson, BMW Research Engineer Stella Clark, BYD President Wang Chuanfu, and Toyota GR Corolla’s Chief Engineer Naoyuki Sakamoto.

BMW i7

The following electric vehicles were striving for victory in 2023: the BMW i7, Genesis GV60, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Kia Niro EV and Lucid Air.

Genesis G90

One of the following models can become the best luxury model of the year 2023: the BMW 7 Series, Genesis G90, Land Rover Range Rover and Land Rover Range Rover Sport, as well as the Lucid Air.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS

The World Performance Car 2023 sports nomination includes: the BMW M4 CSL, Kia EV6 GT, Nissan Z, Porsche 911 GT3 RS and Toyota GR Corolla.

Cadillac Lyriq

The Best Design award may go to: the Cadillac Lyriq, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Land Rover Range Rover, Lucid Air and Nissan Z.

Volkswagen Taigo

The following cars can become theBest City Car of the Year 2023’: the Citroen C3, Ora Funky Cat and Volkswagen Taigo. It should be noted that the stylish retro Funky Cat, which has finally reached Israel, was included in this nomination (and in such a prestigious competition) for the first time.
