JATO Dynamics has published the ranking of the most popular cars in the world in 2021. We are happy to share with you all the information, describing each hero included in the top ten. According to the results of the ranking, we can confidently say that the Japanese are still in the lead, but the Chinese are more and more actively catching up with them. It’s not surprising, is it? The fact that electric vehicles are clearly and confidently entering global trends and becoming the hottest topic in the automotive industry does not bother buyers. Most still choose reliable vehicles that have been proven over the years with a gasoline or diesel engine. So, meet the most popular cars in the world in 2021.

10th place

Here is an unusual new car, an affordable Chinese compact electric car, the Wuling Mini EV. Its annual sales have increased by 226% (up to 469.5 thousand units). Until recently, it was only sold in China. But! In 2021, production of the Freze Nikrob, a 4-seater subcompact electric car, a close copy of the Wuling Mini EV, began in Latvia. It was assembled by Dartz Motorz with only minor modifications, including halogen headlights and a new logo. The mini electric car is equipped with an 18 hp electric motor and two battery options: with a capacity of 9.2 or 13.8 kWh. The latter offers a range of up to 200 km, and a maximum speed of 100 km/h. The entry-level version costs 9,999 euros.

9th place

The Nissan Sylphy (498.5 thousand cars sold) occupies the 9th place. This sedan is only available in China. In 2019, the car seriously changed its style, becoming lighter and sportier. The drag coefficient is now 0.26 (the same as the Nissan GT-R supercar). Plus, it got an electric version. In Israel, an analogue of the Sylphy is sold under the name Nissan Sentra.

8th place

Not the best, but honorable eighth place belongs to the Toyota Yaris hatchback. In 2021, it slightly lost ground compared to 2020 with a result of 515,000 cars sold. But on the other hand, Toyota’s cheerful best-seller tops the compact car ranking: in 2021, the small Yaris, which has already changed 4 generations, took 5.6% of the sales of the entire market and won the Car of the Year 2021 Award! In Israel, the new Toyota Yaris has 3-door and 5-door bodies, with 1,5-liter engines and a CVT. There are also hybrid versions.

7th place

The Toyota Yaris is followed by an American bestseller, the Ford F-150 pick-up. In 2021, it lost 10% of its customers, but is still popular (541,000 cars sold). The F-150 is aptly called ‘America’s First Pickup’ and is one of a series of full-size pickups produced by the Ford Motor Company for over seventy years.

6th place

Unfortunately, the Honda Civic sedans and city cars for 2021 have also lost ground, even despite the release of a new 11th generation in April 2021. The end result is 569,000 cars sold. But on the other hand, in the ranking of compact cars, the Civic occupies an honorable 2nd place, having a market share of 6%. Let’s see what kind of prospects are to be expected from this model in 2022, because the new Civic is now only a hybrid hatchback! The European market will only offer cars with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, two electric motors (one turns the front wheels, the second is paired with the internal combustion engine), a single-reduction unit and a lithium-ion battery. At the moment, the 10th generation Honda Civic restyled in 2018 is available in Israel.

5th place

Finally, here is the long-awaited news! The ‘popular’ electric car Tesla Model 3 managed to increase its sales by 68% in a year (to 592.7 thousand cars) and take an honorable 5th place in the world ranking. But in the global list of the most popular electric vehicles in 2021, which was also compiled by JATO Dynamics, the Model 3 is clearly in the lead. But be aware that the crazy growth in battery car sales may soon slow down. First of all, due to the increase in the price of raw materials for the production of traction batteries. In the meantime, take a look at the price of the new Tesla Model 3 in Israel.

4th place

The 4th place belongs to the most popular Japanese business sedan, the Toyota Camry, which found 617,000 buyers worldwide in 2021. Interestingly, it tops the ranking of the most popular mid-size cars. In Israel, the new Toyota Camry is sold with a hybrid system based on a 2.5-liter engine, an automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive.

3rd place

The third row in the ranking is occupied by the Honda CR-V SUV with a sales result of 713,000 vehicles sold. But the Israelis, as always, are ready to argue with the whole world. In Israel, the honorable third place in terms of sales in 2021 belongs to the Kia Picanto hatchback, which found 11,877 buyers with a 45.4% increase as compared to 2020. But Honda has done everything to make the new CR-V truly comfortable, exceptionally maneuverable and capable of overcoming off-road. The Israeli market offers the new Honda CR-V with all-wheel drive and gasoline engine or hybrid system. Only time will tell what will happen in 2022. A new generation was released in July!

2nd place

The second place is occupied by the Toyota RAV4 SUV, with nearly 966,000 vehicles sold. The legendary name and reliability, along with the impressive capacity, keep the SUV atop almost any rating. The new Toyota RAV4 is now available on the Israeli market, including conventional or plug-in hybrid variants. Depending on engine type, front or all-wheel drive and trim levels, buyers can choose from 10 different versions of the SUV. Interestingly, the Israeli sales ranking for 2021 diverges from the world ranking: in Israel, the second line belongs to the Hyundai Ioniq with a result of 12,311 cars sold, i.e. 23.6% more than in 2020.

1st place

No surprises. At the end of 2021, the legendary Toyota Corolla is still a leader. In 2021, more than 985,000 cars were sold worldwide, which is practically the same as in 2020. In August 2021, Toyota celebrated a milestone: its most beloved and popular premium model found its 50 millionth buyer. Imagine, 50 million people in the world owned or own a Corolla! Finally, our motorists agree with the world ranking. In Israel, sedans, hatchbacks and estates also occupying the leading positions. It is not only the best-selling Toyota model in the country, but also the best-selling car in Israel! In 2021, 17,300 buyers chose the Corolla, 40.8% more than in 2020. Discover what it will look like after the 2022 restyling.
